Profile
Dr. Wenner's research centers on creating a "language of possibility"—ensuring that all learners see science as something they can participate in, contribute to, and enjoy. Her work examines the systems that shape science learning and professional growth, with a focus on teacher leadership, high-quality science teacher preparation, graduate education, and the ways families and communities support children's engagement with science. Dr. Wenner has served as principal investigator or co-principal investigator on more than $6.5 million in externally funded research projects, including multiple National Science Foundation awards supporting science teacher leadership, graduate mentoring, and STEM education.
She currently serves as Director of Clemson University's Center for Transformational Mentorship, where she works with faculty, graduate students, postdoctoral scholars, and campus partners to strengthen mentoring across the university. Nationally, she serves as Division Leader for Research in Science Education for the National Science Teaching Association (NSTA) and serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Research in Science Teaching and the Journal of Science Teacher Education.
Across her research, teaching, and leadership, Dr. Wenner is committed to building educational communities where curiosity, belonging, and meaningful relationships empower learners and educators to thrive.
