As marketing and communications director, Melvin promotes faculty achievements, communicates with local and national media, and helps develop a variety of online and print materials. His stories have focused on the university’s globally recognized research, including diabetes, autism, obesity, genomics, astronomy and Big Data. In 2015, he won a gold medal in the national Association for Communication Excellence (ACE) contest in the category “Writing for the Web.” In 2016, he won another gold medal in the ACE contest in “Writing for a Magazine” and a silver medal in “Writing for the Web.” In 2017, he won a silver medal in the ACE contest in "Writing for a Magazine." He was also co-coordinator of "Eclipse Over Clemson," a mega-viewing party for the total solar eclipse that drew about 50,000 to campus and that won a 2018 Grand Gold in the Council for Advancement and Support of Education international contest. Earlier in his career, Melvin totaled more than 30 national and state awards as a journalist for the Tampa Bay Times, Charlotte Observer and The Greenville News. He is also the author of six published novels. Melvin is a member of the National Association of Science Writers, the Council for Advancement and Support of Education, and ACE.

As the online and print coordinator, Martin updates and expands the College’s website, designs a variety of print materials, takes photographs and writes stories. Previously, Martin was custom publications editor for The Greenville News, where he was responsible for a team that produced non-daily and supplemental content for the newspaper, as well as two monthly magazines, including Upstate Parent and TALK. He wrote a weekly wine-focused column for the newspaper, and wrote and photographed special features. He has also been a consultant to newspapers and commercial printers on writing, design, photography and technology. Martin has won awards from the South Carolina Press Association and the Parent Media Association for writing and design. He is a member of Professional Photographers of America.

As marketing strategist, Wallace supports the development, update, and management of marketing strategies and tactics, informed by external benchmarking. Additionally, Wallace assists the core leadership team with communications and materials for presentations, talks and events. Previously, Wallace was the associate director for the Division of Academic Engagement at the University of West Florida in Pensacola, Florida. At UWF, she performed a variety of duties, from spearheading the brand and strategy of the university to managing the development, distribution and development of all print and digital collateral. Wallace has a master’s degree in strategic communication and leadership from UWF and a B.A. in mass communication and journalism from the University of Southern Mississippi. Beyond work, she enjoys serving and impacting her local community, living by the concept of “bloom where you are planted.”
