Clemson University’s Post-Master’s Certificate in Quantitative Methods in Educational Research prepares doctoral students, researchers, and education professionals to confidently select, apply, and interpret advanced statistical methods.

Through 19 credit hours of doctoral-level coursework, students will strengthen their ability to design high-quality studies, analyze complex educational data, and communicate findings that can inform research, policy, and practice. The certificate combines foundational quantitative methods coursework with specialized electives, allowing students to tailor their preparation to their research interests and professional goals.

The certificate is available through a HyFlex format offering face-to-face or fully online options, providing flexibility for both current Clemson students and working professionals.

    Graduates will be prepared to:

    • Clearly and accurately communicate the results of advanced quantitative analyses for peer-reviewed publications, grant proposals, and policy reports.
    • Apply advanced modeling techniques to produce methodologically sound research that advances theory and informs educational policy and practice.
  • Program Information

    The 19-credit certificate combines foundational coursework in quantitative research design and statistics with advanced study in regression, measurement, and multivariate analysis. Students also complete six credit hours of specialized electives, providing an opportunity to develop expertise in areas that align with their research interests. Coursework substitutions may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

    Required Coursework – 13 credit hours

    • EDF 9270/9271 – Quantitative Research Designs and Statistics for Educational Contexts and Lab
    • EDF 9770 – Multiple Regression/General Linear Model in Educational Research
    • EDF 9080 – Advanced Educational Tests and Measures
    • EDF 9780 – Multivariate Educational Research

    Specialized Electives – 6 credit hours

    Students select two specialized electives. Some examples include:

    • EDF 9310 – Learning Sciences Selected Topics Doctoral Study
    • EDF 9830 – Data Science in Education
    • EDF 9840 – Advanced Structural Equation Modeling
    • EDF 9850 – Multilevel Models for Educational Data

    Students are expected to complete the certificate in approximately five semesters.

  • Admission Information

    Applying to the Program

    The Quantitative Methods in Educational Research Certificate is a post-master's certificate. Applicants must hold a master's degree prior to enrolling in the program.

    Students apply by submitting a Clemson University Graduate School application.

    Application Deadlines

    The application deadline for fall entrance is July 31.

    The application deadline for spring entrance is December 1.

    The application deadline for summer entrance is April 15.
